Educating for Impact

At MGGS, our Grammarians are encouraged to explore the world with curiosity, courage and compassion.

These values are not abstract ideals; they are lived experiences, embedded in every aspect of school life.

Our students are challenged to think deeply, act ethically and lead with integrity. They are actively supported, challenged and inspired by a community that holds high expectations and provides the tools to meet them.

Upon reflecting on this edition of Information Exchange, I am reminded of the enduring value and purpose of a Melbourne Girls Grammar education. The theme of this edition, In and For the World, speaks directly to the School’s mission to nurture ethical women of action – young people who are not only prepared to engage with the world, but who are already shaping it.

The School’s values – courage, self-discipline, integrity and compassion – are more than guiding principles, they are the foundation upon which our Grammarians build their identity and purpose. These values are evident in the way our students approach their learning, support one another and contribute to their communities. They are also the qualities that will sustain them as they step beyond our red brick walls.

"The School’s values ...  are the foundation upon which our Grammarians build their identity and purpose."

Our educators and staff play a critical role in this. Through thoughtful curriculum design and co-curricular opportunities, they create environments where students are encouraged to take risks, reflect and act with purpose. The result is a community of young women who are not only capable, but confident in their ability to lead, contribute and make a difference.

In my own career, particularly during my role as a Director of CARE Australia, I have seen the profound impact of placing women and girls at the heart of change. CARE’s work – focused on empowering women to lift themselves and their communities out of poverty – reinforces a truth we hold dear at MGGS: that education, when paired with opportunity and support, is transformative. It cultivates perspective, resilience and a sense of responsibility that extends far beyond the individual. In a world that is increasingly complex and interconnected, we need leaders who are principled, empathetic and globally minded. We need young women who understand that their voice matters, and who are prepared to use it in service of others.
