The outstanding results achieved by the Class of 2025 have opened pathways to leading universities both in Australia and internationally. The University of Melbourne and Monash University remained the most popular tertiary destinations, accounting for 80.5% of all Victorian tertiary offers received by the cohort.

Among the many outstanding individual achievements is that of Class of 2025 co‑Dux Cecilia Xu, who achieved a perfect score of 99.95 and has received offers from six leading American universities: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Brown and Duke an extraordinary achievement.

“I remember the day vividly: Friday, 27 March, 10am. My mum had rushed home from her early work shift, and I was sitting at my computer – the very seat where I had submitted every single application – anxious to finally see the outcome of years of hard work. As I clicked the 'Application Status' button for each college, I couldn't believe my eyes as the word "Congratulations!" appeared again, and again, and again, and again. I had wished on every shooting star, every 11:11, that just one school would take me: never once did I imagine being accepted by all of them,” Cecilia recounts.

Following a visit to the United States and much consideration, Cecilia has chosen to undertake her studies at Harvard University over the next four years and will commence there in August.

Top Class Performers

Congratulations to Cecilia Xu (2025) and Michelle Mah (2025), who were selected to perform in this year’s Top Class concert series, held at the Melbourne Recital Centre in March. Presented annually as part of the VCE Season of Excellence, Top Class celebrates the highest achieving VCE Performing Arts students from across Victoria

From a highly competitive field of 185 qualifiers, only 48 students were selected to perform – making this an exceptional achievement for both Cecilia and Michelle, who also served as 2025 Music Captains.

Cecilia performed a French Horn work from her VCE Music Performance recital examination, I Threw a Shoe at a Cat by Australian composer Catherine Likhuta.  The technically demanding French Horn work showcased Cecilia’s exceptional musicianship and expressive artistry.

Michelle was selected for her original music theatre work My Life, composed during her VCE Music Composition studies. The evocative piece showcased her strengths as both composer and arranger. Current Year 12 students Stephanie Adamson and Daisy Stoney joined the performance as vocal soloists, alongside Cecilia on French Horn and Michelle on piano.

All Class of 2025 students who applied to study in Victoria received an offer from a tertiary institution.

Society and Culture was the most popular field of study for the Class of 2025, with 37% of Grammarians choosing this career pathway. This reflects a strong interest among our students in engaging with complex social issues, contributing to inclusive communities and creating meaningful change.

The next most popular fields of study were Management and Commerce (17%), Health (14%), and Natural and Physical Sciences (13%). Together, these choices highlight the breadth of interests and ambitions within the cohort and reflect the holistic nature of an MGGS education, where students are encouraged to pursue excellence while embracing individuality and curiosity.
